ACTION ITEM! PLEASE EMAIL THE GILBERT SCHOOL BOARD NOW!Posted: 2014-12-16 ACTION ALERT TO CONTACT GILBERT SCHOOL BOARD
Board meeting is tomorrow night. (12-16-14) Even if you don't live in Gilbert. This could happen in your school!! Dear Family and Friends,
On Tuesday night, the GPS board will be voting on the approved reading list. Years ago, our current board president fought against a book called "Beloved" from being added to the GPS approved reading list. It has "slipped" back on the list unfortunately. This book is pure pornographic material and filth. http://www.politichicks.com/2013/08/warning-graphic-common-core-approved-child-pornography/
The first is an article about "Beloved":
There is also a second book called the Bean Trees. It is a "lesser" in filth book but here is a review from www.brighthubeducation.com (gives reviews on books regarding age appropriateness) if this book bothers you enough to add it to the request to remove "Beloved".
Famed literary critic, Carrie Fleming remarks, "Keep in mind that these quotes, when taken out of context seem more extreme on their own. The content, in my opinion, is too mature for some ninth graders: infant molestation, references to pornography, twins having sex in the womb, penis jokes, etc. The bottom line is that it's a good book for the right audience, but I'd rather let the parents make that decision for their own kids and not suggest it as reading for the entire class."
Please help get these books (SPECIFICALLY "BELOVED") removed from the GPS reading list by: 1. speaking at the board meeting on Tuesday at 7pm (ideal but you need to be there before 7:00 to fill out a card stating you wish to speak) and/or
2. email the board (I have included the email addresses below as well. Please take 5 minutes to tell our new super and our board members that you will not stand for this filth to reside in our schools. I wish they could understand that these are the reasons families are pulling their kids by the droves to charter and homeschool.
We can no longer sit by and assume everything is okay in school. We have to get involved and pay attention. WE need to be the ones deciding what is age appropriate for our children. We cannot allow others to choose for us.
